WHY NOT?

Russell Westbrook is one of the most under appreciated and underrated NBA stars of all time. He just became the ALL TIME LEADER in triple doubles in NBA history. To put it simply: triple doubles are hard to produce in the NBA. This is a billboard I designed to commemorate Westbrook’s achievement. The billboard is “displayed” in downtown Washington DC, where his team plays. “Why not?” is Westbrook’s brand and trademark slogan that I felt was appropriate for this composition because if anyone was going to become the all time triple double leader, “why not” him?

“Mamba Out.”

On this day, 5 years ago, Kobe Bryant capped-off his historic career with an unreal 60 point performance. The Black Mamba willed his team to a 101 - 96 victory over the Utah Jazz in classic Kobe fashion: clutch shooting, mind-boggling footwork, and a refusal to lose.

This composition is a visual representation of the emotions, physicality, and gratitude that Kobe displayed during his final game.

King James

Lebron James and the Los Angeles Lakers are the 2020 NBA Champions. He helped the Lakers conquer the Miami Heat in six games, en route to the franchise’s 17th NBA title, tying them for most NBA titles of all time. Lebron averaged 30 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists and was named Finals MVP for his efforts in what was his tenth NBA Finals appearance. I designed a mural to commemorate his fourth Finals MVP award and tried to capture all aspects of his game: his leadership on the court, his ability to shoot with accuracy, his swift athleticism, and of course his ferocity. Congratulations to the Lakers and my hometown, Los Angeles! Well deserved.

MAMBA FOREVER

The Los Angeles Lakers have held a special place in my heart since I was a child. So it goes without saying that I was/am one of the biggest Kobe Bryant fans out there. When I heard the news that Kobe, his daughter Gianna, and seven other passengers tragically passed away in a helicopter crash I was at a loss for words. So much, in fact, that the only way I knew how to express myself was creatively by creating this composition.

The large image of Kobe facing left is symbolic of him “reflecting” on his past accomplishments in the NBA. Kobe surpassing Michael Jordan on the all-time scoring list is shown through him dunking the ball ahead of MJ (top-left). The image of Kobe with his trophies is placed next to the larger image of Kobe’’s mouth to show that he figuratively “ate” and “breathed” championships. In the bottom-left corner, Kobe is seen conversing with MJ and looking at the image of Kobe and Shaquille O’Neal embracing each other, as if he was telling the story of Kobe’s future.

I will never be able to put into words just how much Kobe meant to me as a basketball player, a competitor, and as a role model. His attention to detail and work ethic is something I try to emulate in my daily life as well as my artwork.

LeBRON JAMES & ANTHONY DAVIS SIGN EXTENSIONS (2020)

The NBA champions signed their two most important players to new or longer contracts on successive days, after upgrading other areas of their roster.
