NBA DESIGN
(Photoshop, After Effects, Procreate)
The game of basketball has held a special place in my heart since I was a kid, growing up in Los Angeles. I was and still am captivated by the speed, strength, and skill that players showcase during games. These NBA designs are creative expressions for my love of the game that still makes me feel like a kid.
All Time Leading Scorer (2023) // 40,000 points (2024)
LeBron James became the all-time leading scorer in NBA history after surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387 points. The social media graphic to the left was a way to communicate this to a larger audience about this historic accomplishment. In the design, the names of the previous two leading scorers are blurred out while Lebron’s name is emphasized in a bold san serif font. “All time leading scorer” is in the same font as his name in order to draw a quick visual connection about what information the design is trying to convey. The video on the right shows the play in which Lebron crossed the 40,000 point mark, a feat that no player might ever reach again. The video is meant to be an engaging, quick, and informative way to highlight the moment that he reached this milestone.
WHY NOT? (2022)
Russell Westbrook is one of the loudest players in the NBA both literally and figuratively. In this design, I wanted to capture the immense passion and joy that Westbrook plays the game of basketball with. The use of bright, “loud” colors in this design is a reflection of his on-court flare and his colorful/bold sense of fashion that he often displays during his “tunnel walk in.” “Why not?” is Westbrook’s brand and trademark slogan that I felt was appropriate to include in this composition in order to tie the whole design together.
Mamba Out. (2021)
On April 13, 2016 Kobe Bryant capped off his historic, 20-year career with a 60 point performance in a win for the Lakers vs the Utah Jazz. This design tells the story of his storybook performance that night. In his rookie year, Kobe airballed 4 shots in the clutch vs the Utah Jazz in an important playoff game. To the left, Kobe is seen smiling down at a moment during the 60 point game in which he hit a clutch midrange jumper to put the Lakers ahead in what was a full-circle moment. On the right, Kobe looks back in the opposite direction of the design in a moment of self-reflection and gratitude.
Lebron James (2020)
As a die-hard Kobe fan, I was initially skeptical of Lebron’s arrival in Los Angeles. However, after helping the Lakers secure their 17th title, I couldn’t help myself but become a fan. This “mural” was designed to showcase some aspects of Lebron’s game that makes him arguably the greatest basketball player of all time. The imperfect cutouts and hand-drawn illustrations were creative choices to reflect his craftiness/creativity on the basketball court. Certain images used in this composition represents different parts of his game: ferocity/passion (flames), focus/leadership (yellow outlines), and deadeye shooting (green “perfect shot” meter).
